Evonik Supports Science Education At Live Oak Manor Elementary
Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity
WAGGAMAN, La., December 4, 2007 – Evonik Industries, whose chemical operations were formerly known as Degussa, today presented Live Oak Manor Elementary School with a $500 community grant to support the school's science education programs.
Michael Genius, Evonik’s CYRO Industries’ site manager, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity. “This grant is Evonik’s way of celebrating this milestone with our neighbors in Waggaman and also a continuation of the company-wide commitment to science education,” said Genius. “Learning about the wonders of science can serve as a great inspiration for students, who may go on to be the chemists, researchers, or engineers of tomorrow.”
Dannie Becnel, principal at Live Oak Manor Elementary in Waggaman, said Evonik’s donation was very much appreciated by the students and staff.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for Live Oak Manor. We're a small school with limited funds so this donation is extra special," said Becnel. "We are excited that Evonik has decided to make this contribution for science education. Science is usually one of those subjects designated for ‘the back burner.’ Evonik is helping us grant science the importance that it rightly deserves. We thank the company for its unselfish generosity."
Genius noted that Evonik employees have a deep commitment to science education. “By supporting our educational institutions,” Genius said, “we are investing in the development of new scientific discoveries, future research and development researchers, and global economic advancement.” Evonik’s local operations are based in the CYTEC Fortier Manufacturing Complex on River Road.
